Vernon's Road Ahead - July 21st, 2022 - Hey Friends, As you all may alreådy know, I have spent the past two years trying to grow the Republican Party in Georgia. I recently participated in both Georgia’s gubernatorial election and the congressional race for Georgia’s 10th district. Although we didn’t achieve our intended results, I am so thankful for the support that all of you gave me on this journey. I have learned a lot, and I will take those lessons with me moving forward. In the past, I served the people of Georgia as a member of the state’s House of Representatives and as the County Executive of DeKalb County – as a conservative Democrat in both positions. My goal was to always fight for conservative principles, even if my party disagreed. However, during President Trump’s reelection campaign in 2020, I was inspired to do more. I saw how hard President Trump fought for the American people, and I felt that my calling was to follow in his footsteps. That is exactly why I endorsed President Trump against the will of my party and even spoke at the Republican National Convention that summer. As a supporter of President Trump and the MAGA movement, I understood that I was no longer welcome in the Democratic Party – or as I like to call it, the “mental plantation.” Democrats persecuted and ostracized me because I dared to think for myself. On more than one occasion, I came face to face with angry violent mobs. I eventually reached a breaking point and decided to join the Republican Party. I left the party of the Ku Klux Klan and Joe Biden and joined the party of Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Douglass, Herschel Walker, Ronald Reagan, and Donald Trump. When Democrats turned their back on me, my choice was easy. My ultimate goal when running for a greater office was to grow the GOP. As we saw with President Trump in the 2020 election, the Republican Party has grown more multiracial and diverse under his bold leadership. My goal was to ensure that trend continued and help Republicans reach out to America’s black men and women. They know that Democrats have ignored them for decades. We just need to reach out and let them know that Republicans are there for them. We are the party of liberty and economic prosperity. Although my campaign is over, the America First movement is still alive. I intend to use every tool at my disposal to help the GOP and President Trump grow the Republican Party. We need to ensure that Republicans retake Congress later this year and that a Republican wins the presidential election in 2024 – with that Republican hopefully being President Trump if he decides to run again.
