Hey John,
The Berkeley Peace and Justice Commission passed a resolution to support the six activists facing felony charges in Sonoma County. On Tuesday, December 10th the resolution will go before the Berkeley City Council so we need YOU there to Support the Right To Rescue. We want to show City Council members that Berkeley residents care about this issue so please come out. We will meet at 5:30pm at 1231 Addison St. Berkeley, CA 94702. See you there.
Here are the other events we have happening this week (all taking place at the Berkeley Animal Rights Center, 2425 Channing Way, unless otherwise noted). Action events are colored in blue and community events are colored in orange -- both are crucial to our movement!
- Monday, December 9th, 9:00am: Pack the Courtroom for DxE's First Trial: Diestel Turkey Ranch - Come support DxE's first trial: Day 5! DxE sued Diestel Turkey Ranch in 2017. Diestel, which is a major supplier of Whole Foods Market, falsely advertised that its turkeys are raised outdoors in picturesque conditions when, in fact, the vast majority are raised in massive industrial sheds. We'll be hearing from licensed veterinarian Sherstin Rosenberg on her opinion on the conditions she observed in videos of Diestel Turkey Ranch before DTR begins to call its own witnesses. Come learn about the legal process and see how Diestel Turkey Ranch plans to defend its deception of the public. Location: 1221 Oak St. Oakland, CA 94612-4217.
- Monday, December 9th, 9:30am: Vigil for Chickens - Please join Direct Action Everywhere and the Save Movement as we bear witness to chickens at two slaughterhouses. This vigil will be recorded by Condition One as part of their documentary. If you need a ride please post on event page and we can arrange carpools :) Signs and placards will be provided. Location: Eden Gleason Park, Stockton, CA.
- Wednesday, December 11th, 3:00pm: Outreach at Berkeley City College - Direct Action Everywhere SF Bay Area will be outreaching at Berkeley City College. Anyone with any level of experience in outreach are welcomed and this is a great opportunity to participate in any capacity you feel comfortable with! Location: Berkeley City College, 2050 Center Street, Berkeley, CA 94704.
- Saturday, December 14th, 11:00am: Meetup: Reach for the Stars but Make a Plan First - Goal Setting - Join us at the Saturday Morning Meetup! We'll be discussing about how to plan ahead, set goals, and achieve your dreams as an activist! Every Saturday at 11am we have Meetups for everyone and anyone who cares about animals and making the world a better place!
- Saturday, December 14th, 1:00pm: Organizer Training: Part 4 - Building Purposeful Communities - The fourth in a four-part series of workshops designed to give you the skills you need to be a leader in the animal rights movement. We ask all Organizers to take all four trainings within the first six months of becoming an Organizer, but if you've taken these trainings in the past you'll get credit for them. Kitty and Rocky will will lead this session.
- Saturday, December 14th, 1:30pm: Chick-nic at Hens of the Hills - Join us as we enjoy the cozy, autumn weather at Hens of the Hills, a microsanctuary for rescued chickens in the Berkeley Hills. Learn about the beauty of chickens, hang out with fellow animal allies and enjoy delicious vegan food and drinks. Please wear clothes that you are comfortable with possibly getting a little bit of dirt on, and feel free to bring a favorite dish or beverage to share! If you bring treats for the hens, please make sure they are organic, as these are some spoiled ladies. Location: 547 Vistamont Ave, Berkeley, CA 94708-1224.
- Sunday, December 15th, 10:30am: ALC 2020 Community Brainstorm & Strategy Talk - What will ALC 2020 look like? Be part of answering that question! Join us at our first COMMUNITY OPEN MEETING and participate in strategic discussions and brainstorms about the next Animal Liberation Conference. Whether you’ve been to ALC before, or if 2020 will be your first one, we want to hear what you’re thinking. This event will feature a facilitated conversation around big-picture visions for ALC, as well as smaller interactive groups about what we can do as individuals to support the conference momentum. Some snacks will be available, and we’re always happy to accept any vegan food contributions you’d like to make :)
- Sunday, December 15th, 11:00am: Pigeon First Aid: December - Every day there are hundreds of birds throughout the city of San Francisco who have strings and hair tightly wrapped around their toes, causing immense pain. Eventually their toes lose circulation, become amputated, or develop severe infections. We can help our bird friends by removing the string before the damage becomes too serious, providing medical care, and releasing them back to their flocks! We will be meeting in front of Wells Fargo bank, at 3027 16th St, San Francisco, CA 94103.
- Sunday, December 15th, 2:30pm: Where is Jill Ravitch? - Activists have been asking Sonoma County District Attorney Jill Ravitch to investigate criminal animal cruelty on factory farms for almost two years now, but no action has been taken. Mysteriously, every time activists write to her, call her, or show up at her office, she doesn't respond and is nowhere to be found. 😱 Could she be missing?! Join the postering campaign to alert Sonoma County residents of her disappearance and to help find her! [Note: This is sarcasm. We have no reason to believe Jill is actually missing, but she really IS missing when it comes to doing her job of enforcing animal welfare laws. Instead of taking action to help suffering animals, she has prosecuted activists and whistleblowers. With this action, we will draw attention to this serious issue with humor.] WHERE: Meeting at Old Courthouse Square in Santa Rosa and we'll split up into groups to poster all around town!
