I will continue to do everything in my power to raise the alarm about the assault on our reproductive rights.

Ilhan for Congress

Friends, you’ve probably heard by now that I was arrested yesterday while participating in a civil disobedience action with my fellow members of Congress and activists outside the Supreme Court:

Congresswomen Ayanna Pressley, Rashida Tlaib, Cori Bush, Ilhan Omar and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

I protest as an elected official because it is my duty to legislate and advocate alongside the people for necessary change.

Last week, we voted in the House to protect access to abortion at the federal level, as well as protect the right of patients to travel to other states for abortion care.

But change does not start and stop with legislation. We need to demand it through organizing, too — especially now, with a right-wing Supreme Court and the archaic Senate filibuster impeding our progress. That’s why I put my body on the line through civil disobedience, and I would do it again. For my teenage daughter who now has fewer rights than I did at her age, and for every person impacted by this dangerous decision.

Our work to defend individual rights is not done in Congress. But my primary is less than 3 weeks away, and I’m up against an opponent whose campaign has paid over $16,000 to a radical anti-abortion activist. I need you in this fight too:

Will you power our movement to defend abortion rights and advance our progressive values by chipping in any amount right now?
