Let’s use this momentum to push our priority legislation forward.
Hi --
Fantastic news: on Monday, the L.A. Times Editorial Board came out in support of parking reform and specifically endorsed AB 2097!
If passed, AB 2097 will reduce housing costs and slash climate and air pollution by eliminating expensive parking mandates on new homes built near high-quality transit.

Far too many California cities impose expensive parking mandates that drive up the cost of housing – and sometimes make it impossible to build housing altogether. AB 2097 eliminates these mandates in areas where residents have lower-cost alternatives to driving, while still allowing parking for people who need it.
Parking mandates in residential developments drive up rents, and cause a disparate impact on lower-income and minority residents who don’t drive, or can’t afford a car.
AB 2097 ends these costly minimum parking mandates, which can add $40,000 or more, per parking spot, to the cost of new housing. It’s perfectly aligned with the goals of lowering the cost of housing while also reducing climate pollution from cars.
Put simply, AB 2097 will reduce housing costs near transit, or in areas with low existing rates of car usage, by removing parking mandates in those areas.
