Dear friend,
PFAS chemicals are dangerous, they’re everywhere, and they’re forever.
And what’s worse, the companies responsible for PFAS chemicals, DuPont and 3M, knew they were dangerous for human health – and covered it up.
We all need to be outraged about this. It’s been 20 years since the dangers of PFAS chemicals were first exposed in Parkersburg, W.V., and there STILL isn’t enough being done to protect us from these “forever chemicals.”
That’s why I’m fighting for regulations that will stop the spread of the PFAS contamination and hold polluters accountable. Congress must enact a National Defense Authorization Act that gets PFAS out of our tap water and cleans up legacy PFAs contamination.
Can you join me?
I first learned about PFAS chemicals when I read Rob Bilott’s story. He took on Dupont to expose the health risks of PFAS and fight for families exposed to the chemicals. He’s a true hero, and I’m honored to portray him in my film “Dark Waters.”
At first I was shocked to learn that DuPont had knowingly exposed its workers and an entire community to chemicals linked to cancer, birth defects and thyroid disease.
But now I’m angry.
In those 20 years – since the dangers of PFAS first came to light – little progress has been made to clean up PFAS contamination. In fact, DuPont and other chemical companies have spent $30 million to try to stop Congress from taking action on these dangerous chemicals.
But this story isn’t over. PFAS still contaminate the blood of nearly every American – and may contaminate the drinking water of up to 110 million Americans – while chemical companies like DuPont and 3M refuse to take responsibility and cover the cost of cleanup.
We need Congress to fight for our health and hold these corporations accountable. It’s time for DuPont and 3M to clean up PFAS contamination! Congress must enact a National Defense Authorization Act that gets PFAS out of our tap water and cleans up legacy PFAs contamination.
Thanks for standing with us, friend.
