Dear
Friend
—
Over the past weeks, the City of Long Beach and our Health
Department have been urgently working to prepare for and address cases
of monkeypox in our community. Yesterday, we announced that we are
expanding eligibility requirements to make vaccines more accessible to
people at the highest risk in our city — particularly gay and bisexual
men and our transgender community.
The monkeypox vaccine is now available for the following
people:
- People who were exposed to someone with confirmed monkeypox and do
not have symptoms.
- People who attended an event/venue where there was high risk of
exposure to someone with confirmed monkeypox.
- Gay or bisexual men and transgender persons who are on PrEP.
- Gay or bisexual men and transgender persons who may have been
exposed through higher-risk settings in the past several weeks.
While the vaccine supply is still limited, we are committed to
meeting the needs of our highest-risk communities and our Health
Department is working around the clock to reach out to those who may
be impacted. If you believe you are eligible for a vaccine, you can
now complete a pre-registration survey to join a waitlist. Those who
sign-up and meet the new eligibility criteria will be contacted with
additional information on how to get vaccinated when it is their
turn.
For more information, full eligibility requirements and the link to
pre-register for vaccination, please visit our website here.
Thank you and stay healthy,
Mayor Robert Garcia
