John,
Yesterday, we told you about the new San Francisco DA Brooke Jenkins, the leader of the recall campaign who was just appointed by Mayor London Breed, firing 15 of San Francisco's brightest attorneys.
But it gets worse.
Brooke Jenkins also supports legislation that would expand the SFPD’s ability to tap into the live feeds of privately owned security cameras, including doorbells, to investigate misdemeanors.
It’s a HUGE invasion of privacy and will be used to make the city even more of a police state than it already is.
This would literally mean police, from their own offices, could tap into home cameras all over the city.
It’s OUTRAGEOUS and it’s shameful that ANY leaders would ever agree to such foolishness — but these are the consequences of conservative billionaires and the police union spending over $6 MILLION to lie to San Francisco voters and recall Chesa.
And if we don’t act now, civil liberties across the country could be at stake if even more progressive DAs are pushed out by powerful campaigns started by Republicans to advance their own agenda.
That’s not all.
Brooke Jenkins is planning to prosecute people for drug use and paraphernalia by reviewing drug cases to reverse plea deal offers made under Chesa’s office.
This path of prosecuting people with addiction, has been proven to NOT reduce drug use.
Her office has already filed more standalone charges for possession of drug paraphernalia than have been filed in San Francisco in the past 11 years. Jenkins claims she has nothing to do with it and will withdraw them, but only backtracked after the media began reporting on it.
It’s clear that she and her political allies, including the Mayor, are HELLBENT on erasing any kind of reform Chesa and his office were working on for the people of San Francisco.
We can’t let this happen in ANY other city. The only way to do that is by working NOW to protect our DAs and the incredible folks they bring into their office to work towards reform.
In solidarity,
Real Justice
