Hey Folks,
Glenn Youngkin’s newest appointee to the Virginia Board of Historic Resources, Ann McLean, is worth getting to know. Glenn Youngkin’s tacit approval of her beliefs is also worth getting familiar with.
In a recently released audio recording, Ann McLean shared that she believes that…
- Robert E. Lee was “a morally fine human being.”
- Lincoln “broke” the constitution when he “called up 75,000 troops to fight against secession,” adding that “secession was not treason.”
- In regards to the Union advances in the American Civil War, “invasion, just like we see Russia invading Ukraine…was wrong.”
- “Slavery is not good,” but the South would have outlawed it on their own, they just “wanted to do it on their time.”
Like so many Virginians, we’re left in shock over how Glenn Youngkin could possibly think that Ann McLean is fit to lead anything in the Commonwealth with these radical, racist views – certainly not something as critical to our understanding of our state history as the Virginia Board of Historic Resources.
This is why we need to elect Democrats – to keep Confederate apologists like Ann McLean out of office, and to hold the supposedly “moderate” Glenn Youngkin accountable for hateful vitriol like this. Can we count on you to make a contribution to help fund Virginia Democrats’ efforts to preserve the progress we’ve made in the Commonwealth?

We’ve got a lot of work to do if we’re going to keep the Commonwealth clear of these historical rewritings and Confederate regressions. Thank you for doing your part to save the progress we’ve made.
