A distinguished group of elected women officials at various levels across Westchester County have endorsed Vedat Gashi in the August 23 Democratic congressional primary for NY 16, confirming that Gashi's experience, expertise and track record of public service make him highly qualified to hold the office.
The initial group of women officials includes Westchester Country Board of Legislators Chair Catherine Borgia (Ossining, Briarcliff, Croton, Cortlandt, Peekskill), NYS Assemblywoman Sandy Galef (Cortland, Ossining, Peekskill); NYS Assemblywoman Amy Paulin (Bronxville, Eastchester, New Rochelle, Pelham, Tuckahoe, White Plains); and former Westchester County Legislators Alfreda Williams and Ruth Walter. Additional endorsements will be forthcoming.
"I am honored to accept the support of these Westchester women leaders," says Gashi, who currently serves as a Westchester County legislator. "Since first being elected, I've had the opportunity to work with them in various capacities on different legislation, including the recent passage of the county's Reproductive Health Care Facilities Access Act, and I look forward to building on these relationships to deliver results for all of NY 16's residents".
"Our campaign is dedicated to delivering real progress for everyday New Yorkers and ensuring that everyone has a shot at the American dream, Gashi adds, noting that he will "fight to protect working families and expand the middle class, because this district deserves a representative who supports mainstream Democratic policies and values who will put progress before posturing and work hard to get things done".
New York's 16th congressional district for the United States House of Representatives includes part of the northern Bronx and the southern half of Westchester County, including the cities of Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, Rye, White Plains and Yonkers.
