Dear Friend, One of the National Center on Sexual Exploitation’s core objectives is to protect children online, given the digital world we all live in today. Many families, teachers, and caregivers are either unequipped or feel powerless to deal with the many endless new pieces of technology being introduced—whether it be at school or at home. This often leaves children fending for themselves in a digital world infested with predators, hardcore pornography, image-based sexual abuse, and messages that encourage them to sell their bodies for empowerment or survival. As adults, we must do better and take a stand for these vulnerable children. This can seem like a daunting task for anyone – so how is NCOSE working to better protect children in the online world? We are changing culture and demanding accountability from Big Tech through innovative and groundbreaking lawsuits against online platforms, such as Twitter, who have profited from the sexual exploitation of children online or who have refused to take action to stop such exploitation. This strategy is working! Already our case against Twitter, which is being sued on behalf of two minors who were trafficked on the social media platform, has made history when a federal district judge allowed federal claims for benefiting from sex trafficking to go forward against Twitter becoming the first case to move to this stage against the powerful platform! Learn more about the case and take action here. NCOSE is defending dignity and combatting sexploitation through political advocacy at the national and state levels with bipartisan support of all legislative solutions. Our task is both offensive and defensive: We must work to educate Congress and state legislatures so that policymakers produce legislation which prevents sexual exploitation and protects its victims. We are seeing significant progress in that arena with our support of the EARN IT Act, the most important child protection legislation pending before Congress in 2022. It creates a safer world for children while still respecting user privacy and free speech. Take action TODAY by following these easy steps to contact your representatives and tell them to support this critical piece of legislation! We believe effective efforts to end sexual abuse and exploitation must rely on truth and facts, and the NCOSE Research Institute is constantly working to provide the latest information on why protecting kids online is so important. Sexting in particular is a problem that connects online activity to the dangers of abuse and exploitation. Download and share our latest flyer on sexting to learn more about this phenomenon and what you can do to help. NCOSE hosts the Coalition to End Sexual Exploitation Online Global Summit each year, creating a one-of-a-kind setting where people from across sexual abuse and exploitation sectors–as well as from a diverse range of professional, political, and personal backgrounds–coalesce to be informed, equipped, connected and inspired. We need you to join us this year to learn about the latest strategies and research on how to best protect kids online! Register to attend our global summit for FREE at this link here. With children spending the majority of their time on social media and other technology platforms, it’s imperative that corporations join the fight to ensure children are safe from harm while online. Our winning strategy has seen victories and progress each year with improving parental controls, defaulting school-issued Google devices to the highest safety settings, and more! You can help us gain even more ground in this fight by urging Apple to enact common-sense measures to protect kids here. It doesn’t (and shouldn’t) require being a parent to care about protecting the rising generation from the harmful impacts of technology—it’s common sense. Thank you for your continued support as we fight for children to be safe online! Together we are creating a world where truly everyone can live and love free from sexual abuse and exploitation. |
