Team,

Today marks ten years since the 2012 Aurora theater shooting.

Aurora.
STEM School.
Columbine.

Every shooting leaves a devastating scar on our community. And yet, not much has changed. There isn’t a week when I don’t hear from kids, parents, and teachers, advocating for serious action.

I’ve made stopping gun violence a part of my campaign because I’m not willing to sit back and let this become the new normal.

I know how dangerous guns are. I was raised and grew up a hunter. As an Army Ranger, I’ve used guns in war and have had guns used against me.

No matter what the NRA and gun lobbyists say, there are commonsense steps we can take to protect our communities from gun violence.

We recently passed the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, the first gun safety bill passed in almost three decades. The bill encourages states to implement “red flag” laws, institutes tougher background checks for anyone younger than 21, and (finally) closes the “boyfriend loophole” — barring anyone convicted of domestic violence from owning a gun.

There’s still much more work to be done — like getting military-grade weapons off our streets — but this bill is a step in the right direction as we fight to save American lives.

As your representative, I promise to continue doing everything in my power to fight for safer communities.

In solidarity,

Jason
