Despite all the progress that’s been made in recent years, Congress is still dominated by wealthy white men. But we’re changing that.
Brand New Congress launched in 2016 with a single purpose: Elect a Congress that truly represents us.
In 2018 we recruited and helped elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez , the youngest woman ever elected to Congress and the first woman and first person of color to represent her district in Congress.
In 2020 we helped Cori Bush (the first candidate BNC ever supported) defeat a 50-year political dynasty to become the first Black woman elected to Congress from Missouri – and the first Black Lives Matter activist to serve at the federal level.
We helped elect Rashida Tlaib , the first Palestinian-American and one of the first Muslim women to serve in Congress (alongside Ilhan Omar).
We elected Jamaal Bowman , one of the few public school educators to serve in Congress. And Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick , a successful small business owner and the first Haitian American elected from Florida.
We are proud of all of our elected representatives. Their lived experience and moral clarity brings a completely different kind of leadership to Congress that we see in action every day.
But if we’re going to pass progressive policies to help working families, we have to grow. We need HUNDREDS like Cori Bush and AOC in Congress.

We have a lot of strong contenders on the ballot right now to help us grow progressive power in Congress.
Odessa Kelly in Tennessee, Melanie D'Arrigo and Brittany Ramos DeBarros in New York as well as Rebecca Parson and Stephanie Gallardo in Washington will each make history with their wins.
Charles Booker in Kentucky is aiming to be the first Black man elected to the U.S. Senate from Kentucky. Angélica Dueñas and Michelle Vallejo are each running to be the first Latina to represent their immigrant communities.
Next month we are working to reelect all five of our elected representatives, and send another five bold, progressive women to the general election in November. But we can’t do it alone.
