Most of the refugees we surveyed hope that they can return home soon. They are anxious to reunite with friends and family, and constantly worry about their loved ones still in Ukraine. However, while the war continues, most Ukrainians simply do not know when they will be able to return. Inside Ukraine, displaced people are also living with uncertainty.
One thing is for certain—whether refugees choose to stay where they are or return home, UNHCR is there to support them. Inside Ukraine, UNHCR is undertaking housing repairs, providing cash assistance, legal support and other in-kind aid like mattresses and blankets, especially as the winter approaches. Whether inside Ukraine or in neighbouring countries, we are continuing to support the immediate and long-term needs of people forced to flee. Refugees deserve to feel stability and live their everyday lives with dignity—they need cash assistance to cover rent, medicine and other basic needs. They need access to education, to childcare and to job opportunities.s.
