Last week, Up For Growth released their Housing Underproduction report, which examined the severity of the housing shortage in over 800 US cities. The results are sobering.
Between 2012 and 2019 alone, housing underproduction has more than doubled, reaching a deficit of nearly 4 million homes across the country.
Housing underproduction has fueled the extreme housing costs we’ve seen in the last three years. Previously affordable neighborhoods have become unattainable, BIPOC families continue to be blocked from buying homes, and according to a recent White House report, housing has driven nearly one-third of inflation. Today, millions of families struggle to keep a roof over their heads due to high housing costs.
This is why we’re fighting for abundant, affordable housing for everyone. Because everyone deserves access to a safe, affordable home that’s close to jobs, schools, transit, and other opportunities.
The good news is that we can make it a reality. But we need your help to make it happen.
Will you donate to fuel the fight? Donating $35 or more will make you an official YIMBY Action member! (Plus you’ll get a Homes For All shirt if you join this month 👏) Your donation will go directly to training housing activists and providing tools for pro-housing community groups across the country to fight for abundant, affordable housing.
