Dear John
We’re down to the last two. And it’s awful.
Either Rishi Sunak or Liz Truss is
set to become the next PM. They will be elected by a base of around
160,000 Tory members - around 0.3% of the UK’s total
electorate.
Unless you’re part of that
0.3%, you won’t get a say in who becomes our next PM. You won’t get a
chance to make change.
We’re angry at this
unrepresentative way of making huge changes to our political
establishment, and we’re angry that changing the tenant at Number 10,
won’t actually mean change for the better.
Whether it’s Sunak or Truss,
the future looks pretty bleak. Both candidates have signalled their
intention to press ahead with breaking international law by
unilaterally overturning the Northern Ireland Protocol. Both have
taken a deeply unpleasant populist stance on deportations of those
fleeing persecution to Rwanda, and both have failed to come up with
clear policies to tackle the climate emergency we’re
facing.
Neither candidate offers the
change Britain needs.
We’re not going to sit idly by
and pretend everything is great just because Johnson is on his way
out. Instead, we’re going to keep advocating for the change you
need.
Whether it’s detailed
behind-the-scenes work to reform damaging legislation, meetings with
parliamentarians to urge for a fairer voting system, or social media
campaigns to engage people with a better politics, we’re fighting to
get this nativist, isolationist and damaging regime out of Westminster
once and for all.
For that, we need your
support.
Whether you can pledge
long-term support and become a regular donor for just £5
a month, or whether you can only afford a one-off
donation for now, everything you contribute gets used for
our vital work.
We don’t have fancy offices, we
don’t have grand social events. What we do have is a team with
passion, drive and real integrity who are fighting their utmost to
change British politics for the better.
Support our team today, and
support a better future for Britain.
Thank you for everything you
do.
Best wishes,
Naomi Smith CEO, Best for
Britain
