Issue 64 | Summer 2022 | |||||||
Welcome back to Fraser Insight, the Fraser Institute’s U.S. newsletter. This summertime issue of Insight is highlighted by the hard work of our EFNA Network, which now enfolds 58 members in 47 states/territories, Canada and Mexico. In the past 10 months, the Network has added new partners in Georgia, Oklahoma, Montana, New York and Puerto Rico. Read more about the impressive impact of the EFNA Network in our In Print section, which features an article about the Network’s far-reaching influence and multifaceted work, along with op-eds and blogs covering the impact of lockdowns on our kids, the developed world’s fitful transition to post-carbon energy, the causes and consequences of inflation, and the dangers of mushrooming government debt. Our In Focus section, which always showcases in-depth research and analysis, includes reports on the global mining industry (the U.S. boasts the most jurisdictions placing in the top 10) and energy development, as well as two fascinating interviews: one focusing on healthcare technology, the other on economic freedom and the wellbeing of women.
Finally, our In Context section showcases Fraser Institute researchers making headlines in leading media outlets across the country. |

Annual Survey of Mining CompaniesThis survey is an attempt to assess how mineral endowments and public policy factors such as taxation and regulatory uncertainty affect exploration investment. The top jurisdiction in the world for investment is Western Australia, which moved up from 4th place. Saskatchewan moved from 3rd to 2nd. Nevada fell from 1st to 3rd. Rounding out the top 10 are Alaska, Arizona, Quebec, Idaho, Morocco, Yukon and South Australia. The United States has the most jurisdictions in this year’s top 10. Zimbabwe ranks as the least attractive jurisdiction in the world for mining investment, followed by Spain, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Mali. Economic Freedom, Women's Wellbeing and the Limits of Interceding PolicyA Fraser Forum podcast conversation with Rosemarie Fike, economics instructor at TCU. Can Canada Avoid Europe’s Energy Crisis?A combination of market forces and government policies is threatening global energy security as demand for oil and gas is expected to increase in the coming years without a commensurate increase in supply. Declining investment as a result of volatile commodity prices and aggressive climate policies, in combination with the West’s response to the war in Ukraine, risks limiting the world’s ability to supply this growing demand. The inevitable consequence of this supply and demand mismatch is an energy shortage that will lead to higher energy prices for a sustained period of time, hampering economic growth and increasing the cost of living. How Society Can Maintain Health with TechnologyA Fraser Forum podcast conversation with Sonia Arrison, founder of 100 Plus Capital. |
