"When you see something, say something."
That’s a phrase we hear a lot, and thanks to a heroic member of our community doing just that – a violent attack on our city was thwarted.
We are reminded almost daily of the consequences of gun violence in America. From mass shootings to street shootings, we are in an epidemic of violence and we need to do everything in our power to stop the cycle.
I’ve said as your Mayor, taking a holistic approach to gun violence prevention is the only way we are going to make real progress. In the case of the planned 4th of July shooting, a tip from a community member allowed law enforcement to intervene and stop the attack.
Here is a clip from Good Morning America where I discuss what happened in a little more detail.
Bottom line – we aren’t going to solve the problem of gun violence overnight. But we are going to continue to do everything in our power to make progress. And remember – if you see something, say something. You might be saving lives.
Thank you,
Levar Stoney
Mayor of Richmond
