Section 508 Best Practices Webinar: ICT Guidance for Implementing Accessibility into DEIA Plans in the Federal Workforce

On June 25, 2021, President Biden released Executive Order 14035 Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility in the Federal Workforce to establish a government-wide initiative to promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) in all parts of the federal workforce. The next webinar in the Section 508 Best Practices Webinar Series will take place July 26 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. (ET) and focus on General Services Administration?s (GSA) ?Executive Guide to Federal IT Accessibility,? which provides a broad overview of the benefits of accessibility and management practices for various phases of technology development and implementation lifecycles, and ?Technology Accessibility Playbook,? which provides a framework and actions for the integration of strategic, business, and technology management practices to ensure information and communication technology (ICT) is accessible for people with disabilities. Presenters from GSA will also discuss other available resources, such as the government-wide DEIA Strategic Plan?s Accessibility Roadmap, GSA?s Government-wide Program Maturity Reporting (PMR), Accessibility Requirements Tool (ART) updates, ICT Testing Baseline for Web Accessibility, and others.

Registration closes 24 hours before the start of the session. Instructions for accessing the webinar on the day of the session will be sent via email to registered individuals in advance of the session. Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) and Video Sign Language Interpreters are available for the session and will be broadcast via the webinar platform. A telephone option (not toll-free) for receiving audio is also available.

The Section 508 Best Practices Webinar Series provides helpful information and best practices for federal agencies in meeting their obligations under Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act which ensures access to information and communication technology in the federal sector. This webinar series is made available by the Accessibility Community of Practice of the CIO Council in partnership with the U.S. Access Board.
