John,

The Ohio Supreme Court just tossed out Ohio Republicans' clearly partisan Congressional map, stating that the map violates anti-gerrymandering rules in the state Constitution.

This decision confirms what we already knew: Ohio Republicans are using their map drawing power to try to sway future elections so they can hold onto power in the future. Their actions show a flagrant disregard for Democracy and amount to an attempt to engineer election outcomes.

While the court ruled that Ohio will need new Congressional maps for the 2024 cycle, the decision does not affect the upcoming midterm elections in November. We will have to use their gerrymandered map this cycle.

This graphic from political scientist David Pepper shows why the GOP is willing to go against the state Constitution to gerrymander: they can use it to sway election outcomes in their favor.

Let me be clear: I vehemently oppose efforts by lawmakers in either party to gerrymander Congressional districts. Gerrymandering is an attempt to engineer election outcomes, and the practice does not belong in a vibrant democracy.

Can you rush $15 to help us overcome Republican Gerrymandering?

I decided to run this campaign for Congress because I’m concerned about the future of American democracy. Our elected officials are feeding a climate of polarization and partisanship by prioritizing partisan gain over serving the people. I’m working to put a stop to this trend. I promise you that I will always prioritize what’s best for our democracy, even if it hurts my party’s interests.

Max Miller has shown he will prioritize partisan gain over what's good for democracy. He's a right wing ideologue who helped Trump plan his January 6th rally to overturn the results of a free and fair election. I'm the only candidate in this race who is committed to protecting democracy.

Our district was gerrymandered to help Max Miller win, but we can overcome his structural advantage. The people of Ohio’s 7th district are wiling to put country over party. Our campaign is receiving support from community members in both parties who are sick of out of control partisanship and attacks on our democracy.

Max Miller already has a partisan advantage in this race. We can't let him also have a fundraising advantage. We need your help keeping pace with Max. Can you support our campaign by donating $25, $50, $100, or anything that you can share?

Sincerely,

Matthew Diemer
