Perhaps the worst social change in America over the years has been the gradual acceptance of treachery in our country. Yes, awful people have always been with us: brutal slaveholders, Native American destroyers, narcotics merchants, assassins, we've had them all. If you read Killing the Mob and Killing Crazy Horse, you know that I know what I'm talking about. The difference today is that ruthless people have cover: the internet. Ask any school kid, and they will tell you stories of betrayal and emotional brutality attached to social media. And the miscreants go largely unpunished. |
