Last night I participated in the League of Women Voters’ forum for congressional candidates in WA-06.

Out of the six candidates in the race, only three were there: two Republicans and me. (This is a top-two primary where all candidates run against each other, and the top-two vote-getters go to the general election.)

The incumbent didn’t bother to show up, just like he didn’t bother to show up to a recent forum hosted by local Indivisible groups.

One of the Republicans went on a bigoted rant about trans people, said gay marriage is immoral, denied that climate change is real, and said he was glad Roe v. Wade was overturned.

The other Republican was also glad Roe v. Wade was overturned and he thinks we need more “debate” about social issues and rights.

Well, you know what? My rights aren’t up for debate. I would be the first woman and first gay person to represent this district in Congress, and I will never waver in my fight for reproductive freedom and LGBTQ+ rights.

Why do these candidates care more about states’ rights than human rights? They are unfit to represent this district, which Biden won by 18%.

And the incumbent is unfit to continue serving, since he:

-Can’t be bothered to show up to forums
-Supports privatizing Medicare and opposes Medicare for All
-Has taken over $3 million from corporate PACs
