Early voting has officially begun in the Arizona primary, and polls say election-denying, Capitol-riot-attending Mark Finchem is in the lead to be the Republican nominee for secretary of state.

It hardly needs to be said that Donald Trump has endorsed Finchem. In fact, Trump sees him as the key to securing a second term in the White House. He knows that with QAnon conspiracy theorists like Finchem overseeing elections in battleground states, a close election won’t be close at all: it’ll be stolen on his behalf.

This plot to install Trump loyalists in battleground state election oversight roles is why I started The American SOS Project.

The truth is, without a concerted effort to turn attention and resources to these races, they can fly under the radar -- extreme candidates can win these positions and start to secure a Trump “victory” in 2024 before the presidential election even begins.

The American SOS Project is going to invest in states like Arizona (and any other battleground where a Trump crony is on the ballot), doing the work to expose the truth about these candidates. We have no doubt that the MAGA movement will dump money into these elections — and with November getting closer, we need to secure more resources ASAP if we’re going to make a real difference in these races.

Look, Mark Finchem is a fringe candidate whose entire campaign is based on lies and conspiracies. He’s even been called “Steve Bannon’s man in Arizona.” But we know better than to think a character like that can’t get elected -- especially with Trump, Bannon, and the entire MAGA movement behind him. We need to do everything in our power to fight back.
