Hello Comrade Friend -- Today we’re proud to release MI12district.money, a citizen journalism website exploring the dark money PACs and out-of-state donors who are spending millions to buy the 12th district and stop Rashida Tlaib’s people-powered movement for economic justice. Using publicly-available information from FEC filings and extensive independent research, volunteer writers, researchers, coders, and designers from MDDSA created a site showing that most of the money being spent against Rashida comes from American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) and its network of wealthy donors and related groups. Socialist and progressive candidates across Michigan and the US are facing a tidal wave of PAC spending from this same network, who have spent millions trying to block the congressional elections of Tlaib and Andy Levin in Michigan, Summer Lee in Pennsylvania, and Jessica Cisneros in Texas, among others. The rightwing network has also supported 109 Republican congresspeople who backed Donald Trump’s violent effort to overturn the Electoral College’s results and enact a putch on January 6th. AIPAC and its crew of ultrawealthy donors does not care about the needs of people in Southeastern Michigan. They want to be sure that money we need here for schools, roads, healthcare, and parks is instead funneled into profitable forever wars in Middle East. They know that a united working class, supported by courageous politicians like Rashida Tlaib, is a danger to their rightwing, prowar agenda of genocide and apartheid in Israel.
