Hey jammer,

Even as our species faces the fast-approaching peril of extinction, we seem hopelessly unable — or unwilling — to break with our most toxic habits. We are addicted to the empty rite of consumption, a stark sign of our civilization's decline into ruin. We are alienated from ourselves. We live but hollowly by the Algorithm, while our thoughts, our creativity, and our spontaneity die by the Algorithm. We prefer our experiences to be mediated by palm-sized bricks of glass and plastic, rather than to come by them raw, unfiltered, and real.

But this is not the only way. Now is the winter of our discontent. Now is the time to live life afresh. This holiday season, let us say "No!" to this algorithmically-mediated consumption binge, which we have been inculcated to accept as normal, even inevitable. This year, refuse to participate in this deadly cycle, which threatens our species with its forewarning of a dark age to come.

In order to live more, we must strive to consume less.

The keyboard warriors who made #BuyNothingDay trend on Twitter know this. The thousands of students and workers who walked out in protest of Black Friday know this.

We’ve rethought the vulgar ritual of Black Friday. Now let's rethink Christmas as well. Let’s make this Christmas a #BuyLessXmas.

Give thriftily and spend frugally on things that really count, and which truly last. Show your kith and kin that you care for them — and the planet you share — by shopping less lavishly, less wastefully, and more mindfully.

Under the moonlight during this month's #Moonday, December 11th, vow to live without dead time . . . then continue this serendipitous experiment past Boxing Day, into the New Year, and beyond.

Find out what it's like to live again.

For the Wild,
