Russia's brutal invasion of Ukraine has undoubtedly changed the security situation in Europe. The unity and expansion of NATO will ensure a safe and prosperous future for the United States and our allies.

For the first time, Sweden and Finland are seeking admission into NATO. With their advanced economies and world-class militaries, they will make great additions to our alliance.

That is why last month, I was proud to introduce a resolution in support of Finland’s and Sweden's accession to NATO. And today, I voted with my Senate Foreign Relations Committee colleagues to pass the resolution. Our historic strength as an institution lies in our unity. Finland and Sweden have surpassed the qualifications to gain NATO membership.

This historic accession will allow Finland and Sweden to work with us on our shared values and priorities to maximize security on a global scale. In the aftermath of Russia’s invasion, collective security through international cooperation is a major part of ensuring our own strong defense capabilities.

I promise to continue working toward strengthening cooperative ties and pushing for the swift ratification process for both nations' accession. Will you join me in supporting Finland’s and Sweden's application for NATO membership? >> [link removed]
