BY CARRIE N. BAKER | Many are calling on the Biden administration to declare a public health emergency for abortion in response to the Supreme Court’s Dobbs opinion overturning Roe v. Wade. Ms. spoke with leading reproductive health law scholar and Temple law professor Rachel Rebouché about the strengths and limitations of a public health emergency declaration for increasing access to abortion healthcare.

“Nothing is going to change without intervention. We don’t have a statute. We don’t have constitutional protection. But the federal government is not powerless on the issue of abortion, and so what are the tools at its disposal?”

BY OLIVER C. HAUG | Over 30 demonstrators, including at least 16 Democratic lawmakers were arrested Tuesday afternoon at a rally protesting the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson, which overturned Roe v. Wade.

Among the lawmakers detained were members of the Democratic Women’s Caucus including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.), Barbara Lee (D-Calif.), Cori Bush (D-Mo.), Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and Jackie Speier (D-Calif.), who led the protest according to Axios.

BY BRIGITTINE FRENCH | Citizens of the United States can learn a great deal from Ireland’s democratic approach to reversing the criminalization of abortion, which took it out of the courts and put it directly into the hands of the people.

If Roe is unconstitutional, as the Supreme Court asserts, then it is time to change the Constitution by popular vote, just as they did in the Republic of Ireland.
