A few days ago, Speaker Pelosi announced that the House will begin preparing articles of impeachment.

After what we've heard in public testimony these past few weeks, this is clearly the right path forward. The evidence presented before the House Intelligence Committee was both deeply upsetting and damning.

Donald Trump took an oath to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution -- and he has abdicated that responsibility.

I'm thankful to Speaker Pelosi and House leadership for handling this process with the seriousness it demands.

As I've said before, this is a sad moment for our democracy. It brings me no joy that we're in the midst of the impeachment process for an American president.

If and when an impeachment trial begins in the Senate, I will uphold my Constitutional duty to ensure a fair trial and impartially weigh the evidence presented.
