Hi John!
We’re Josiah, Luke, and Madeleine, three of Mary Gay Scanlon’s Democracy Summer Fellows! Over the next week, our fellow interns will be bringing you up to speed on what’s new in Mary Gay’s campaign. We’ve all thought deeply about why we want to be involved in politics and are excited to share a little bit of our passion with you.
We joined Mary Gay’s campaign through Democracy Summer, a nationwide program for the next generation of Democratic leaders. The eleven of us working in Mary Gay’s office this summer come from different places, faiths, and backgrounds, but we have found common ground through our shared values and hope for a better future.
We were all asked why we decided to be a part of Democracy Summer and work for Mary Gay. All three of us are at a point in our lives where the next steps are uncertain, as current and prospective college students. There are a lot of places where we could have taken these next steps on our journeys, but we all chose Mary Gay because we believe in her and the vision she is fighting for. More specifically, we said:
The other interns will have a lot more to say on what we have been doing this summer, but we wanted to share some of our personal highlights:
Hopefully you can see how hard we have been working this summer and how excited we are about Mary Gay! What keeps everything running is small grassroots support for our campaign. Will you join by chipping in $5 to support Mary Gay’s important work here in PA-05?
We are not living in easy times, we must choose every single day to fight for the freedoms and rights that we hold sacred. I know it is not easy, but we are in this together and we’re glad you’re here.
Our other fellows will be back tomorrow with more from Democracy Summer with Team Scanlon!
Thanks for reading!
