John,

Yesterday, as Executive Director of Reproaction, I joined congressional leaders and other action groups, in a united call to pass the Judiciary Act which would add four seats to the Supreme Court. Expanding the Supreme Court in this way is fundamental to protecting our rights in the face of an extreme right-wing bench stacked for the purpose of overturning Roe v. Wade and undermining democracy and personal freedoms in this country.

A screen shot of Erin Matson speaking from C-Span2. Lower third reads: Expanding Supreme Court, Erin Matson, Reproaction Co-Founder & Executive Director.

They have left us no choice; we must work to protect the fundamental rights of people and take back the court.

As we’ve been saying for some time, overturning Roe was just the beginning. In the weeks since there have been stories about the range of situations activists warned about including proposals to ban interstate travel, restrictions on sharing speech about abortion access, confusion about if doctors can provide medical care for miscarriages and ectopic pregnancies, and forced travel for vulnerable patients seeking abortion care.

The level of urgency is at an all-time high. They have already told us that they are eyeing to roll back protections including same-sex marriage and contraception.

As I said at yesterday’s press conference: “For abortion rights. For the Bill of Rights. For the future of democracy and individual freedoms we must act now to save the Supreme Court and our country.”

Our democracy is under attack. Let’s fight back.

Sincerely,

Erin Matson
Executive Director, Reproaction

P.S. This session, the Supreme Court has gutted so many things from reproductive rights to gun control to environmental justice and more. We cannot let it continue.
