“Idiot.” “Reprehensible.” “America’s Hitler.” Those are all terms JD Vance used to describe Donald Trump back in 2016.

But once Vance decided to run for Senate in Ohio, he had a new way of describing Trump: “The greatest president of my lifetime”. Vance eagerly accepted Trump’s endorsement, and won the Republican nomination.

That’s not the only thing Vance has reversed himself on. In a 2010 blog post, Vance stated that Social Security and Medicare “consume more than half of the federal budget” (ignoring the fact that these are earned benefits, not entitlements). Vance referred to Social Security cuts as “fiscal sanity" and lamented the political difficulty of passing them through Congress.

Now that Vance is running for U.S. Senate, he claims that he doesn’t support cuts to Social Security or Medicare. But that doesn’t mean much coming from a man who has shown he will say anything to get elected.
