John,
When the Supreme Court overturned Roe last month, we knew the consequences would be quick and devastating.
We were right. Already, people are being forced to travel out of state to access needed medical care. And as always, Mike DeWine responds with empty platitudes and refuses to acknowledge that he caused this by signing Ohio’s draconian anti-abortion bill into law.
We cannot allow politicians like Governor DeWine and Republican leadership in the state legislature to determine what care people can receive, and as governor, I’ll fight to protect abortion rights. Will you split a contribution between my campaign and Emilia Sykes right now?
While abortion has become much more inaccessible to many without Roe, it’s far from the first time Governor DeWine has pushed to restrict abortion – of the many attacks he has launched on reproductive rights during his time in office, here are just a few:
- In the days before the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, giving free reign to state Republicans to restrict reproductive rights, he said he wanted to “go as far as we can” to ban abortion.
- He signed into law a bill banning abortion after just six weeks – before many people even know they’re pregnant – with no exceptions even for rape or incest.
- He fought to defund Planned Parenthood and force clinic closures in Ohio.
- As Attorney General, he wrote a brief in defense of Hobby Lobby’s denial of contraception coverage.
- He pushed the Ohio Supreme Court to overturn a lower court ruling that kept Toledo’s last abortion clinic open.
Here in Ohio we believe that reproductive decisions should be made by people, not politicians or corporations – and we deserve a governor who will fight for that right.
Split a contribution to my campaign to help elect a pro-choice governor for Ohio and a pro-choice representative for OH-13.
