Policing in America, at its core, is deeply rooted in structural and systemic racism.

As for economic justice, Pennsylvania has not raised its minimum wage for more than 10 years, where it has sat at the federal level of $7.25/hour. Nearly half the country, and every state neighboring PA, has increased the minimum wage with several on the path to $15/hour in the near future.

Even worse is the subminimum wage paid to tipped workers. The subminimum wage is a direct legacy of slavery, and we can see that the two-tiered wage system continues to be a source of economic instability and racial inequity for millions of workers, a majority of whom are women and disproportionately women of color.

John, empowering communities of color, immigrant communities and the youth to make their voices heard and participate in the democratic process and vote their values is critical to create the change we all want to see in Pennsylvania.
