Rev. Jordan-Simpson brings her deep roots in the Black Church to her new role of president of Auburn Seminary, including being ordained at age 17 at the historic Concord Baptist Church of Christ, which was founded by the Black abolitionist Sampson White of Abbysinian in 1847. She went on to serve as pastor for the church along with her husband, Gary. We discuss how her background and grounding in the Black Church have informed her approach to pastoral care, as well as her focus on the needs of children to help them thrive. In the very recent wake of the tragedies in Brooklyn, Buffalo, Southern California, and Uvalde, we talk about how critical pastoral care is for grieving, healing, and the movement for justice.
