Andreea Vrinceanu is good in a crisis.
As the refugee coordinator at a Blue Dot hub in Brasov, Romania, Vrinceanu thoughtfully assists newly arrived refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine. Her clear-headed, calm focus gives her the strength to support people living through unthinkably challenging circumstances.
Vrinceanu sees firsthand the shock and heartbreak experienced by people forced out of their homes by violence and separated from their loved ones. One morning, a man who was worried about his family asked for a guitar to play to calm his nerves.
His playing moved Vrinceanu to tears. “That was the moment when I first cried,” she recalled. “I could feel all the pain of going away from home and not knowing how your loved ones are. So this was, for me, heartbreaking.” |
Vrinceanu works round the clock coordinating temporary lodging, arranging meals, sharing travel information and providing emotional support. She also introduces newly arrived children to the playroom. "That is where the magic happens," she says. "The change is striking. They have access to a place and a community that makes them feel a little bit like home."
