The Fight for Social Housing Advances! |

The Housing Justice Working Group has helped House Our Neighbors meet its signature requirement for Initiative 135! I-135 is a social housing ballot initiative that will create publicly owned, permanently affordable social housing in Seattle. We mobilized over 40 chapter members to gather over 3000 signatures across 25 SDSA-led events, constituting at least 10% of the total signatures gathered! This helped SDSA grow its capacity for organizing around electoral work, as well as recruit new members. HON has gathered over 29,000 signatures, but 30% have been invalidated. Starting at the July 23rd rally, HON and the HJWG will restart signature gathering, continuing to build the chapter, for another 20 days. We call on everyone to help get I-135 across the finish line! |

Ballots also arrived for Congressional District 9 where Seattle DSA endorsed, Stephanie Gallardo, a union organizer and teacher in Tukwila is taking on war-hawk and 24 year incumbent Adam Smith. Stephanie Gallardo is running Medicare for All, Abortion Rights, humane and easy immigration, a $20 minimum wage, and a Green New Deal with Union Jobs to secure housing and sustainable infrastructure.
