Dear John,
Did you know that all CO2 molecules are identical, whatever their source?
That means the source of CO2, which causes a buildup of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, is irrelevant from an environmental perspective.
As such, a new Fraser Institute study out today finds that the federal government’s proposed cap on emissions from Canada’s oil and gas sector is misguided.
In 2019, the oil and gas sector represented just 26.2% of Canada's total emissions, yet it is the only industry targeted by the proposed emissions cap.
Arbitrary caps on individual sectors will reduce emissions at a greater cost than is necessary, and interfere with the mechanism of the carbon price, which the federal government has already imposed.

Sincerely,
Niels Veldhuis
