How Democrats “Win”

• Hopefully you read yesterday’s Texas Minute, in which Brandon Waltens recounted how a profane and unruly crowd of lefties convinced the Democrat Party to chase Texas Scorecard from the Dallas Convention Center (in contradiction to state law). Here’s a quick video, in case you missed it.
       
• As it turns out, the Democrats were so busy keeping Brandon out, that they didn’t get around to passing a party platform. 
      
• It is a reminder that the only way Democrats will win statewide offices in Texas is through the incompetence of Republican officeholders, or by cheating (which is enabled by the incompetence of Republican officeholders).

• As an aside, Democrat convention-goers are blaming their party’s inability to get a quorum present and conduct business on late-night drinking by delegates. No matter how you slice it, there is very low enthusiasm for Texas DEMs from Texas DEMs.

GOP House Leaders Seek To Censure Colleagues

• Despite the completion of the primary and runoff elections—where protected incumbents retained their nominations amid grassroots challenges—the Texas House GOP Caucus is seeking to censure three Republican state representatives for supporting (unsuccessful) grassroots challengers over incumbents. Sydnie Henry has the details.
      
• The Executive Committee of the Texas House Republican Caucus is recommending the censure of State Reps. Jeff Cason (R–Bedford), Ben Leman (R–Anderson), and Steve Toth (R–The Woodlands) for opposing fellow incumbent Republicans.
      
• “This whole issue is about the Incumbent Protection Program. If you dare exercise your First Amendment right to oppose Republican members who oppose conservative policies, they will ‘censure’ you.” – State Rep. Jeff Cason
      
• Of the three members under scrutiny, only Toth is up for re-election in November. The other two chose not to seek re-election; Cason’s district was redrawn to heavily favor Democrats, and Leman was paired with another Republican incumbent.
        
• Apparently, “we have to unify to beat the Democrats” is only a priority when crony establishment Republicans are talking to grassroots conservatives.

Will Texas Follow Arizona On School Choice?

• Arizona’s governor just signed a ground-breaking universal school choice bill that’s being hailed as the “gold standard” for parent empowerment and education freedom. Erin Anderson reports on the efforts of Texans to pass a similar measure in the Lone Star State.
      
• Arizona’s new law empowers all families to pursue the best education for their children by allowing funds allocated for education to follow students.
      
• “Texas students deserve the same consideration as their counterparts in Arizona,” said State Sen. Bob Hall (R-Edgewood). “Parents should be empowered to choose the best school to meet the needs of their child.”

Power Insecurity

• As Texans endure intense summer heat waves, they also face potential power outages due to a lack of adequate energy supplied through the state’s unreliable power grid. Katy Drollinger has the story.
     
• Texas is the only state operating on its own power grid. After a record-breaking winter storm blasted Texas in February 2021, the agency responsible for managing the grid came under intense public scrutiny. Among the shortcomings then, and continuing through today, is an over-reliance on unreliable energy sources like wind and solar.
     
• With the 2023 legislative session beginning in less than six months, lawmakers will have another opportunity to fix Texas’ unreliable power grid.

Beware The Midterm Variant

• A new strain of COVID spreads as midterm elections are right around the corner… and it is bigger, meaner, and isn’t stopped by anything but masks and more governmental control!
     
• As Emily Wilkerson reports, the Biden administration’s Anthony Fauci wants everyone masked up for the latest iteration of COVID. 
     
• With inflation hitting 9.1 percent and the continued invasion of the southern border, some speculate that the newest COVID strain could become a welcome distraction for Democrats in the coming election cycle.

Miller And Medical Marijuana

• Texas’ Commissioner of Agriculture, Sid Miller, wants the Lone Star State to expand access to “medical marijuana.” Jake Peterson reports Miller is urging Gov. Greg Abbott to make it a priority in the upcoming legislative session.
