Team,

It's Christina here. As a member of this campaign and a proud Howard University grad, I'd like to tell you a little bit about Cory's plan to support and invest in our Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

First of all, Cory has the boldest plan ever to invest in our HBCUs. Period. As the son of two parents who went to HBCUs, this is personal for Cory. His mom is a graduate of Fisk University, and his father graduated from North Carolina Central University.

These schools have contributed to the advancement of our country. But the news we hear too frequently about our HBCUs is that they're struggling in many ways due to lack of funding. Cory wants to change that.

Cory's plan would commit $100 billion to upgrade facilities and infrastructure, boost graduation rates, and invest in research and STEM education.

Team, sign your name here if you believe that we should ensure America's HBCUs and Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs) are well-funded, affordable, and continue to deliver opportunity for Black and Brown Americans.

Cory's proposal goes beyond HBCUs to invest in other MSIs as well -- because we should also be talking about creating opportunities for other marginalized groups, including the Latinx and tribal communities, that are too often left out of the conversation.

Howard was one of the few safe spaces in this country where I was able to learn and exist freely, especially as a young Black woman and, eventually, a first-generation college graduate. Howard provided me with a sense of community and family -- to this day, many of the students I met at Howard are still my best friends. And more importantly, Howard prepared me for what was ahead.

In a nation where Black students are still not afforded equity and equality when it comes to public and higher education, HBCUs, even with financial challenges, continue to provide world-class education and produce most of the nation's Black doctors, lawyers, judges, engineers, and more.

Add your name if you agree that we need to invest more in our HBCUs and MSIs. These institutions empower the communities they serve.

I am truly grateful for the experience I had at Howard. Being a student can be tough. Sometimes, young people just need an extra push to get across the finish line. At my school, I was surrounded by professors and mentors that always encouraged me to keep going. And I'm sure many people who've attended other HBCUs or MSIs would tell you the same thing: HBCUs and MSIs never give up on their students.

We shouldn't give up on them.
