I understand one donation may not sound like a lot in the context of a crucial race for the U.S. Senate, but please know this: When people like you step up by the thousands and chip into our campaign, it means we have the resources to fend off relentless GOP attacks and run an aggressive, successful campaign – the sort of campaign it takes to keep a must-win seat blue and protect Democratic control of the Senate.
But you rightfully may be asking: Why now? Why today?
Because, Friend, as we speak, Mitch McConnell and the National Republican Senatorial Committee are actively plotting how they can flip just a single Democratic seat to take control of the Senate. GOP leaders are actively plotting what they would do with resurgent Republican control – including passing a federal abortion ban, stripping voting rights nationally, and preventing any more evidence of Donald Trump’s wrongdoings from being made public.
As critically important as these dangers are for the survival of our democracy, there are also other issues at stake. Like the survival of our planet. Despite every effort to persuade and negotiate that has been made over the 18 months of this administration, it now cannot be denied that having a split Senate has blocked meaningful progress on climate change and sustainability. So we need not only to stop McConnell and the GOP from subverting our nation’s freedoms, we also need to elect even more senators who will join me in fighting climate change and protect a future where those freedoms will be exercised.
As I have time and again, I will go toe to toe with Trump, McConnell, and their right-wing backers. I will do whatever it takes to keep their extremist, out-of-touch GOP agenda from being forced on the American people. And I will continue to fight with my willing colleagues to make meaningful progress to save our planet. But I can only win and keep fighting when grassroots supporters like you chip in $5 to help me succeed.
