Folks, ever wonder why such a wide diversity of voters are given just two political parties to pick from? In the latest episode of Civics for the Culture [[link removed]] , our host Chelsey Hall is breaking down the two-party system.
Chelsey not only outlines the history and structure of the two-party system, she also clears up a common misconception: We actually have more than two parties — think the Green Party or the Libertarian Party — but the winner-takes-all structure of our elections concentrates power between the Democratic and Republican parties.
The truth is, no voter is going to see their beliefs perfectly reflected in one of just two parties. We’re all too unique for that. But we can look at how our values fit within each party’s policies around taxes, immigration, healthcare, reproductive justice, environmental regulations, and more.
This is all covered in episode seven of Civics for the Culture. Watch the latest episode here, and if you're able, please chip in $20 or anything you can to fund our voter education programs like this one. [[link removed]]
We’re not trying to tell people which party to vote for or convince them that this two-party system is perfect. But each vote has power and by understanding our political system, people can match their values and vote their interests.
This November is a chance for every voter to make their beliefs heard and cast a ballot for the policies that can make a positive impact on their lives.
That’s why we need voter registration and education programs that give that power to as many people as possible. Watch the latest episode and if you can, chip in $20 to help Fair Fight Action reach more people and empower more voters in this fall’s midterm elections. [[link removed]]
