Political Update

Dear A.,

President Biden’s visit to Israel reaffirmed that America’s ironclad support for Israel serves our interests and promotes our values. This mutually beneficial partnership is a cornerstone of our national security and helps address 21st century challenges in areas like cyber security, energy security and health care.

AIPAC is proud to be on the forefront of strengthening and expanding this vital relationship.

Today, the overwhelming majority of Congress—Democrats and Republicans alike—stands strongly with the Jewish state, and we stand with them. AIPAC is supporting 329 pro-Israel candidates from both parties in this midterm election cycle.

But a growing anti-Israel squad is seeking to undermine the U.S.-Israel relationship. Their policy vision for the U.S.-Israel relationship harms America’s interests and security.

We must not let them win.

Over the past six months, we have helped nine pro-Israel candidates defeat anti-Israel candidates in partisan primary elections.

Among the nine winners are five incumbent members with strong pro-Israel voting records—one Republican and four Democratic House members, including Rep. Shontel Brown who sits in both the Black and Progressive Caucuses.

After our work to help reelect Shontel Brown, Congressman Ritchie Torres rightly said, "Shontel is a national symbol of a central truth that you can be both progressive and pro-Israel. The notion that you cannot be both is a vicious lie that should and must be finally put to rest."

Indeed, we proudly support pro-Israel progressive leaders who don’t check their values at the door when it comes to standing with Israel—a U.S. ally and liberal democracy that champions justice and equality.

We are engaged in three more Democratic primary races in the next three weeks to help elect pro-Israel leaders:
- July 19 in Maryland: Pro-Israel Glenn Ivey is facing Donna Edwards—a former member of Congress with an anti-Israel voting record

- August 2 in Michigan: Pro-Israel champion Rep. Haley Stevens is facing Rep. Andy Levin who is the author of a bill that calls for the U.S. government to recognize the Western Wall as "occupied Palestinian territory."

- August 2 in Michigan: Pro-Israel Adam Hollier is facing Shri Thanadar, who is cosponsoring a resolution in the Michigan state house that labels Israel an "apartheid state."

Winning these political battles will help keep Congress pro-Israel. Strengthening the U.S.-Israel relationship strengthens America’s interests and values, and we are proud to be in this political fight together with you.
