Dear John,
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and radical Democrats have introduced a bill today to codify the redefinition of marriage in law.
That bill, the (Dis)Respect for Marriage Act, is scheduled to receive a vote Tuesday morning. Click here to tell your member of Congress to vote “No”!
The Defense of Marriage Act was approved in 1996 by overwhelming bipartisan majorities in both houses of Congress (342-67 in the House, 85-14 in the Senate) and signed into law by President Clinton. As the Republican Party Platform observes, “[t]raditional marriage and family, based on marriage between one man and one woman, is the foundation for a free society and has for millennia been entrusted with rearing children and instilling cultural values.” Thus, “the [U.S.] Supreme Court’s ruling in United States v. Windsor, which wrongly removed the ability of Congress to define marriage policy in federal law,” is to be condemned. Congress should certainly not affirm this ruling now by voting for the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act.
Your member of Congress will vote tomorrow. Make your voice heard now.
Sincerely,
Your Friends at FRC Action
