A Message from Congresswoman Sherrill
Dear Friends,
Last week, I spent a lot of time on the House floor voting on a wide range of bills that will benefit NJ-11. As we continue to reckon with the recent mass shooting tragedies across the country, the House passed legislation that will help keep communities safe. We also stood up for women’s reproductive rights.
On top of that, I am proud to share that this year’s bipartisan National Defense Authorization Act, which will strengthen our national security, bolster our local economy, and support veterans, passed the House.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the survey I included in my most recent newsletter. If you haven’t yet and have a minute, fill out this mid-year check in survey and tell me the top three issues on your mind right now.
Reminder: My team will be at the West Caldwell Public Library for Mobile Casework Office Hours on July 20, 12-2PM. Stop by if you need help with a federal agency, such as the IRS, Medicare, or the VA.
Also, applications for Fall 2022 internships in both my DC and Parsippany offices are open! If you are a college student interested in government and public service, apply to be an intern! Click here to learn more and apply.
Check out my Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to stay up to date with the latest news and updates from my office.
Take care,
Mikie Sherrill
Passed The House!
The National Defense Authorization Act |
As a Navy veteran and Vice Chair of the House Armed Services Committee’s Subcommittee on Tactical Air and Land Forces, I participated last month in the committee mark-up of the bipartisan National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2023. I’m excited to share that the House voted to pass the NDAA!
Alongside an overwhelmingly bipartisan group of my colleagues, I voted to strengthen national security, increase investment in Picatinny Arsenal, combat climate change, make life more affordable for our servicemembers and their families, and bolster workforce development.
Read more about how the NDAA is working for NJ-11 here!
I spoke alongside my House colleagues about how the passage of the NDAA is bringing federal dollars directly back to our community and making life more affordable for New Jerseyans.

Protecting Reproductive Freedom |
The Women's Health Protection Act passed the House last year with my strong support. In the wake of the extremist SCOTUS decision to ignore 50 years of precedent, I reaffirmed my commitment to fighting so that every woman in the United States has the right to reproductive freedom and access to care.
Freedom for women to seek the reproductive care they need is now protected in New Jersey state law. Last week, the House followed New Jersey’s lead by passing the Ensuring Access to Abortion Act, which protects women from restrictive laws that would prohibit them from traveling to another state to access reproductive care. Now, I urge my Senate colleagues to pass these critical pieces of legislation.
As a mom of four children, I’m committed to advancing commonsense gun violence prevention strategies that save lives. That’s why I voted for the Active Shooter Alert Act to create an AMBER Alert-style notification during a mass shooting.
Law enforcement nationwide strongly supports this bipartisan bill, which includes resources for state and local agencies to improve their notification systems to keep people safe during a gun violence emergency. This bill is not a substitute for gun violence prevention, but it provides crucial tools to keep our community safe.
Paying My Respects To Corporal Williams With Joe Griffies |
Last week, I paid my respects to Corporal Hershel “Woody” Williams, the last surviving Medal of Honor recipient from World War II, in the U.S. Capitol. I stood alongside my friends Senator Cory Booker and Joe Griffies, Vietnam veteran and Radio Host of the Welcome Home Veterans Show, to honor this exemplary member of the Greatest Generation. Thank you to Joe for being an incredible advocate for veterans in New Jersey and for bringing Woody’s story to Senator Booker and me.
