📆 The Week Ahead: Apollo 11 Anniversary 🌕
Today is Monday, July 18. This week, on Wednesday, July 20, we are celebrating the 53rd anniversary of Apollo 11 astronauts' Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin walk on the Moon.
July 20 is also National Hot Dog Day.Â
Additionally, July is National Grilling Month, National Hot Dog Month, and National Ice Cream Month.
Coming up on July 26, we'll mark the 32nd anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The Census Bureau collects data on disability primarily through the American Community Survey (ACS) and the Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP).

On July 20, 1969, the world paused to watch and listen as America's Apollo 11 astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin became the first humans to walk on the Moon. The historic moment was the climax of a space program that President John F. Kennedy challenged eight years earlier to "commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to the Earth."
Data Collection Begins for New Business Trends and Outlook Survey
Data collection has begun for a new Census Bureau survey to measure business conditions on an ongoing basis. The Business Trends and Outlook Survey (BTOS) is the successor to the Small Business Pulse Survey (SBPS), a high-frequency survey that measured the effect of changing business conditions during the coronavirus pandemic and other major events like hurricanes on our nation’s small businesses. Â
This new survey will increase the scope of the SBPS to include large single-location employer businesses (those with 500 or more employees). It will provide insight into the state of the economy by providing continuous, timely data for key economic measures every two weeks.Â
Census Bureau Appoints Eight New Members to National Advisory Committee
The Census Bureau has announced the appointment of eight new members to its National Advisory Committee (NAC).
The NAC considers topics such as hard-to-reach populations, race and ethnicity, language, aging populations, American Indian and Alaska Native tribal considerations, new immigrant populations, populations affected by natural disasters, highly mobile and migrant populations, complex households, rural populations, and population segments with limited access to technology.
The Committee also advises on data privacy and confidentiality, among other issues. Learn about the new members.Â
Anniversary of Americans With Disabilities Act: July 26
On July 26, 1990, then-President George H.W. Bush signed into law the Americans With Disabilities Act, which prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in employment, transportation, public accommodations, commercial facilities, telecommunications and state and local government services.
