MEMO: An Update on the State of the Race for U.S. Senate in Connecticut

FROM: Christopher Velazco, Campaign Manager for Leora Levy for U.S. Senate

We are just weeks away from the August 9 primary in Connecticut, and it’s exciting to see momentum building for Leora.

Her common sense, conservative message is resonating as she travels across the state connecting with voters on the issues that matter in her sincere and personable way. Connecticut wants change and that means electing a political outsider with real solutions to combat inflation, address crime, secure our border, and stand up for our shared values. Leora knows Connecticut is worth fighting for, and that career politicians like Dick Blumenthal and Themis Klarides will only bring more of the same to Connecticut. Leora is not a career politician; she is a career American!

As Campaign Manager, I want to share an update on the State of the Race and why Leora is racing toward victory in August and November.

We’re Winning the Ground Game and Taking the Fight to Career Politicians Who have Failed Us

The political Establishment is rightfully nervous. Leora is winning this, and momentum is growing every day. The new fundraising numbers are in for the quarter, and Leora has more cash on hand than any other primary candidate. Leora puts it all on the line because she believes our party’s conservative principles are worth fighting for.

With each passing day, Leora’s message is reaching and resonating with more voters than ever before. Whether it’s communicated through TV ads, campaign stops, or one-on-one conversations, voters understand and appreciate that they finally have someone for whom to vote who will fight for the issues they truly care about.

Themis Klarides is a Democrat is Disguise

From the start, Themis Klarides and the Establishment have spread misinformation and lied, and when countered, Themis whines and cries foul to the media. It’s apparent that she did not think twice about attacking our party’s National Committeewoman, but now that she knows she is losing the fight, she is trying to beg off.

At a fundamental level, this election will be decided based on whether or not the people of Connecticut are satisfied with the status quo. Voters know they cannot send another career politician - with a liberal voting record on the issues that matter - to Washington and expect anything to change. Leora is the only candidate who represents a meaningful break from the “business as usual” mentality pervasive in DC. Our campaign is focused on relentlessly presenting voters with this choice and making the contrast even sharper by shining a bright light on Themis Klarides’ long, liberal record.

Just take a look for yourself,

  • Themis helped Democrats pass some of the strictest gun laws in the nation and has said that she would do the same on the federal level if given the opportunity
  • She is endorsed by Planned Parenthood and NARAL, and supported Democrats in their efforts to codify abortion in CT
  • Proving she is beholden to special interests, her donations show she is being bankrolled by Eversource executives
  • She voted ‘yes’ on a bill that increased the diesel tax here in CT, further hurting our state and local businesses as we face record gas prices and ongoing supply chain woes
  • She has publicly stated that she did not vote for President Trump in 2020

How can you trust an entrenched member of the Hartford Swamp when they do not even support the Republican candidate and our values? She will only bring her brand of insider politics to Washington, DC. Nothing will change.

Although an outsider, Leora was still recognized by President Trump and nominated to be Ambassador to Chile due to her international business experience and her bilingual abilities in 2019. With Themis’ "Republican record" it’s no wonder her name was nowhere to be found on President Trump’s list.

In the news, Themis cries foul again and again saying we’re “attacking her,” when we are simply exposing her liberal record as a career politician entrenched in the Hartford political Establishment. Plus, she tries to distract from her own unfounded, scurrilous attacks on Leora.

Political Insiders Are Protecting Their Own and All Evidence Points to Them Doing it at Taxpayer Expense

Themis wants to be seen as being above the fray but truly, she is behind the recent pathetic attempt to disparage Leora with false attacks. Her campaign circulated a letter attacking Leora, full of the whining, insider baseball, and crocodile tears you would expect from the Establishment when its back is up against the wall. While certainly distasteful, the “attacks” weren’t the real problem with the letter. The fact that all of the data points toward the letter originating from a state government official is something every taxpayer in Connecticut should be concerned about; CT taxpayers deserve an explanation.

The metadata attached to this letter showing it was created by a state official raises a critical question – were taxpayer dollars used to promote the political agenda of Themis Klarides and her campaign? By the way, that government employee is also a spokesman for the Klarides campaign. How does that even work? Has this happened before? How often? Connecticut voters need to know the truth.

After this was discovered, Leora rightly called for a public investigation on the Lee Elci Show. Themis brushed off the accusations and did nothing. This is about transparency and ethics in government. When Themis didn’t act, we decided to file a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to dig in and see just how often the Klarides Campaign has felt entitled to use taxpayer time and resources to advance her political career.

To date, the Office of Legislative Management has not substantively responded, but we will keep pushing because like you, we demand transparency in government. It is our hope that we will receive a prompt, comprehensive response to our records request, but it is also entirely possible that the Hartford Swamp will drag their feet on this to shield one of their own.

While it is uncertain whether the Office of Legislative Management will act in the interest of transparency, ethics, and the public good, what is clear is that we need a political outsider like Leora Levy who offers a fresh, new perspective on issues relating to government spending, the invasion at our southern border, putting a stop to CRT in our schools, and protecting parental rights.

This is About Beating Dick Blumenthal

Dick Blumenthal is an embarrassment and it is far past time that we send this career politician packing. Whether it’s lying about his service to our nation in Vietnam, attending a Communist Party awards ceremony, trying to ensure late term abortion is codified in national law, confiscating law-abiding citizens’ guns or voting for the trillions in wasteful spending that has led to record inflation, Blumenthal is far more concerned with pleasing the out-of-touch “Progressive” left and bringing Socialism to this country than actually serving the people of Connecticut.

There has never been a better opportunity to turn Connecticut Red, but we must give voters a clear contrast at the polls. Republican voters in Connecticut want a candidate who can take on Blumenthal, someone who will fight for Connecticut. We need a true principled conservative to take the reins. That candidate is Leora Levy.

About Leora
I am running to take on the far-left whose policies will make our country look more like the Communist Cuba my family and I escaped in 1960 than the United States we have all known and loved. I am running for Senate to lead the fight for freedom. Joe Biden isn't on the ballot in November, but his policies are. The way to beat back Biden is to beat Dick Blumenthal, and I am the conservative candidate who can get it done.
