Paul Gosar-led discharge petition to end Covid national emergency declaration reaches 111 signatures as fatality rate continues plummeting

A discharge petition led by U.S. Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) for H. J. Res. 46 that would end the national emergency declaration began by former President Donald Trump on March 13, 2020 has reached 111 signatures as of July 15, according the Office of the Clerk of the U.S. House of Representatives. Companion legislation has already passed the U.S. Senate by a 48 to 47 vote on March 3. The news comes as Covid fatality rates continue to plummet, according to the latest data from the Institutes for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME). When the pandemic began, estimates cases peaked in March 2020 at 155,000 per day, and then fatalities peaked by April 17 at 2,335 daily, an implied 1.4 percent fatality rate. This past winter, cases peaked at 3.9 million daily in early Jan. 2022, with 2,616 peak deaths on Jan. 27, an implied fatality rate of 0.067 percent.

Latinos are more than Breakfast Tacos. Will Democrats ever learn?

Are the same people who write Joe Biden’s speeches also writing Jill Biden’s speeches? Embarrassingly for all parties, Jill attempted to praise the diversity of Latinos by comparing them to bodegas and breakfast tacos. Democrats have long pandered to the Latin community, but Latinos are religious and relatively conservative, and Democrats are moving further left each year despite accusing the center of moving right. White liberals are having a difficult time accepting this reality, but they will be forced to acknowledge, adapt, move make to the center, or possible lose the Latin voting block forever.

Biden attempts to repair U.S.-Saudi relations that he damaged

Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning: “President Joe Biden decided on day one of his administration to effectively declare war on Saudi Arabia. He did this by canceling the sale of defensive weapons like patriot missiles, ending the terrorist designation of the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen, and undermining the Abraham accord by reinstating tariffs on U.A.E. aluminum. Now, Biden claims that he wants to establish better relationships between Israel and Saudi Arabia. President Trump already did that, and Joe Biden cannot pretend that he has done anything except fund Iranian terrorism aimed at taking down the House of Saud. I hope that President Biden has a successful meeting in Saudi Arabia., However, any problems or pushback he receives are the sour fruits of his disastrous middle eastern policy."

John Hinderaker: Breaking free from China?

“Chinese solar panels are made in large part by slave labor, i.e. Uyghurs. It is hard to compete with slave labor on price. Also, Chinese factories are fueled by coal, giving them another price advantage. If we really want to have a domestic solar panel industry–I don’t, but let’s assume the Biden administration does–one obvious solution would be to impose heavy import duties on Chinese solar panels.”

When the pandemic began, estimates cases peaked in March 2020 at 155,000 per day, and then fatalities peaked by April 17 at 2,335 daily, an implied 1.4 percent fatality rate.

The next winter, cases peaked at 505,000 in late Dec. 2020, with 3,466 peak deaths on Jan. 10, 2021, and the implied fatality rate had dropped to 0.69 percent before almost any vaccines had been administered.

This past winter, cases peaked at 3.9 million daily in early Jan. 2022, with 2,616 peak deaths on Jan. 27, an implied fatality rate of 0.067 percent.

And with the recent spring and summer waves, daily cases peaked at 660,000 in early May and again in June at 530,000, with peak deaths of 390 on June 28, an implied fatality rate between 0.059 percent and 0.073 percent.

In short, the original Covid variant that was so deadly in 2020—leading to economic lockdowns globally and locally here in the U.S., millions of jobs lost and a massive albeit short-lived recession—is no longer the dominant strain of the virus. Thank goodness.

Meaning, the emergency that existed in 2020 may no longer be relevant the current situation with the virus. The pandemic is over. So, why hasn’t President Joe Biden lifted Trump’s national emergency declaration?

In March, when the Senate passed its version of the Gosar-led measure, Gosar blasted Biden for extending the emergency and keeping America locked in a state of fear: “All across America mask mandates are being lifted and normal life is beginning to return. Yet, Mr. Biden recently extended the COVID-19 national emergency for another year despite painting an optimistic portrait of life for Americans after COVID-19 during his recent State of the Union address.  The extraordinary powers given to Mr. Biden to deal with the pandemic are no longer justified.”

Additionally, the public health emergency, separate from the President’s national emergency declaration, by the Department of Health and Human Services was recently extended by the Biden administration.

Gosar noted the extensive powers these declarations give the executive branch: “Under the current COVID-19 national emergency declaration, more than 120 emergency statutory powers can be invoked by Mr. Biden, including the power to draft Americans without consent, raising Dr. Fauci’s salary, further barricading the United States Capitol, and placing the Public Health Service under military control.”

Despite the progress in the Senate, the House under Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is another matter entirely. Gosar noted, “Twice I have moved to terminate the national emergency and both times Nancy Pelosi changed the rules of the entire House to prevent this from happening.”

Gosar is right to raise this question. Emergency powers should not be treated lightly, and to the extent that they were justified then, the House should vote on whether they are justified today. Every member of the House should sign the Gosar petition to discharge H. J. Res. 46. The American people are ready to move on from Covid.

Latinos are more than Breakfast Tacos. Will Democrats ever learn?

Are the same people who write Joe Biden's speeches also writing Jill Biden's speeches? Embarrassingly for all parties, Jill attempted to praise the diversity of Latinos by comparing them to bodegas and breakfast tacos. Democrats have longer pander to the Latin community, but Latinos are religious and comparatively socially conservative, and Democrats are moving further left each year despite accusing the center of moving right. White liberals are having a difficult time accepting this reality, but they will be forced to acknowledge, adapt, move make to the center, or possible lose the Latin voting block forever.

Texas Congresswoman Mayra Flores, who won a special election in a district that had been blue for over 100 years, responded to the Democrat pandering.

"I am proud of my culture and my beautiful family. I was born in Burgos, Tamaulipas, Mexico, and raised with strong Conservative values to always put God and Family first. I have received only hate from the liberal media and constantly [been] told by the left to go back to Mexico. They don't support us immigrants, they only use us for political power and don't care about our well-being. I am here now, and I won't allow them to continue taking advantage of my people,” said Flores.

She continued “it's going to take a lot more than that [Latin music and tacos]. We want gas, rent and groceries to come down. We want more money in our pockets, and they're only making our lives more miserable."

There are a couple major incompatibilities of the modern Democrat platform and the average Latino living in America. First, for most (not all) Latinos, they know what a man is and what a woman is. Is there a penis or is there a vagina? Biology is literally quite that simple. Saying that there are infinite genders and allowing biological men into women’s restrooms is a fast way to bring forth a Latin red wave.

Most Latinos are Catholic, and they often value family very highly. For many Latinos, their families are the most important thing in their lives. They want to make sure that their children have the best possible chance at success, and they believe that conservative values will help them achieve this. This isn't always the case, but it is a common view among Latinos.

Many modern democrats, on the other hand, believe that the nuclear family unit is sexist, based on a toxic, patriarchal society, and finds its roots in racism. These two views are irreconcilable.

Lastly, with some Democrats adapting the viewpoint of pro-abortion (beyond pro-choice), this will create an electoral challenge as more Hispanics are more pro-life than any other ethnic group in America.

The Democrats at CNN and New York Times can continue to shame Latinos all they want by writing articles with titles like The Rise of the Far-Right Latina and These GOP Latina candidates are not the 'real deal', but that won’t change the reality of a difference in fundamental values.

To win the Latino vote, Democrats must make some serious changes. They need to move to the center on social issues and become more fiscally conservative. Until they do, they will continue to lose votes from this critical voting bloc.

John Hinderaker: Breaking free from China?

By John Hinderaker

We have been writing for a long time about the fact that transitioning from fossil fuels to wind and solar energy is catastrophically bad policy, not only because those forms of energy are intermittent and therefore inadequate, but also because China dominates the market for wind turbines and solar panels. Going “green” means turning over our economy–our lives–to the Chinese Communist Party.

This issue has been a dark secret if you rely on liberal news outlets for information, but now a glimmer of reality seems to be breaking through. I haven’t seen this reported domestically, but the Guardian has the story: “Breaking from China’s clean energy dominance ‘imperative’, US and Australia say after new climate tech deal.”: “In a joint press conference in Sydney, the US energy secretary, Jennifer Granholm, and the Australian climate change and energy minister, Chris Bowen, announced a ‘net zero technology acceleration partnership’, including an initial focus on long-duration energy storage and digitising power grids. They said the agreement was motivated in part by the need for a clean energy and critical mineral supply chain that did not depend as much on China, which is responsible for about 80% of solar energy technology manufacturing. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), it is expected to reach 95% by 2025.”

Why might that be? It’s because Chinese solar panels are made in large part by slave labor, i.e. Uyghurs. It is hard to compete with slave labor on price. Also, Chinese factories are fueled by coal, giving them another price advantage. If we really want to have a domestic solar panel industry–I don’t, but let’s assume the Biden administration does–one obvious solution would be to impose heavy import duties on Chinese solar panels. But that would expose the ridiculous cost of solar energy, and, anyway, tariffs are Trumpian: “Granholm compared the risk of relying on China for clean technology to the west’s over-dependence on Russian fossil fuels – a mistake that sparked a global energy crisis after it invaded Ukraine… ‘We’ve seen what happens when we rely too much on one entity for our source of fuel, and we don’t want that to happen – so to diversify those energy sources and to link up with partners is part of our energy security.’”

Of course, the U.S. was never reliant on Russia for energy, at least not during the Trump administration. A sensible policy would be to maximize production of U.S. oil and gas so that our allies can rely on us, not on the Russians and not on the Chinese. But that approach is not on the table.

In this article, at least, the focus is on solar energy, but China dominates the market for wind turbines, too. More important, China controls the market for processing the minerals that are needed for these products, no matter where they are manufactured. No word on how, exactly, the U.S. and Australia will ramp up mining on an unprecedented scale to avoid this bottleneck.

The press conference included a brief reference to “long-duration energy storage,” which of course would be required to make wind and solar energy even remotely viable, if prohibitively expensive. But no such storage capacity exists, and it is not on the horizon. And–by the way–what country do you think controls the minerals and mineral processing that are necessary for the giant batteries the “greens” contemplate? Yes, that’s right. China.
