Be Moor Aware

This is Roy and Simon from our Don’t Trash Oldham team. ([link removed])

They’ve been out and about at Dove Stone over the last week litter-picking, after people didn’t clear up after themselves.

It comes after fire crews from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) spent the night tackling two moorland fires in Oldham and Bolton onMonday 11 July ([link removed])

Ten fire engines from stations across Greater Manchester were called to a fire near Dove stone Reservoir and quickly brought the fire under control.

As the UK prepares for record-breaking temperatures this week, firefighters in Greater Manchester are urging people to act responsibly and enjoy the warmer weather safely ([link removed])

You could face a fine or a prison sentence if you take fires, including BBQs, up on the moors. Three visitors to Dove Stone thought it was ok to throw cigarettes butts on the floor – even though they could have started a fire in the dry conditions.

They're now £100 lighter in the pocket after being given fines for littering by our enforcement officers.

If you do spot a wildfire, get to a safe place, call 999 and ask for the Fire Service ([link removed])

Oldham Foodbank needs you

Oldhams foodbank relies on the goodwill and support of the people of Oldham helping their fellow Oldhamers.

Over 90% of the food distributed by foodbanks in The Trussell Trust network is donated by the public – that’s why your food donations are absolutely vital to their ability to give everyone referred to them a balanced and nutritious three day supply of food. ([link removed])

You can find a shopping list on their website of the food items that they need right now. School holidays are looming. Struggling families will be struggling even more and their stocks are lower, than they have ever been.

If you are happy to drop off food donations, please see their website for local food collection point locations ([link removed])

Can you support Oldham Foodbank with a small donation, fundraiser or food collection? Whatever you can spare, every donation is welcome

LGBTQIA+ Fostering Mythbusting

Often, there are many myths and preconceptions around the idea of fostering, and who can foster. This means that often, many people rule themselves out of being eligible to foster based on incorrect myths. However, regardless of your religion, race, ethnicity and sexual orientation, none of these factors will determine whether or not you can foster.

Can I foster if I am gay or bisexual? Yes, you can foster if you are gay or bisexual. Sexual orientation is not a deciding factor on whether or not you can become a foster carer.

Can I foster if I am transgender? Yes, you can foster if you are transgender. Being transgender (and your gender in general) is not something that will determine whether or not you are eligible to foster.

Can I foster if I’m in a same-sex relationship? Yes, you can foster if you are in a same-sex relationship. In fact, same-sex foster parents are even sought after and encouraged, so this would in no way hinder your ability to be able to foster a child.

Our Fostering team will be at Oldham Pride the 23 July and will be happy to answer questions about fostering you have or for more information before the event, call 0161 770 6600 or visit www.oldham.gov.uk/outthere

Love Parks Week is back

Oldham has some of the best parks and green spaces around so why not take the chance to explore them?

Whether it’s walking the dog, picnicking with friends, or pushing your little ones on a playground swing, parks give our communities vital space to play, enjoy and get some fresh air.

Want to get in shape for summer or just do a bit of gentle exercise in the fresh air? We’ve installed new outdoor gym equipment in 2 Chadderton parks - Princess Rd and Granby St. Why not hop aboard and give it a go?

Love Parks Week is set up to celebrate and support the efforts of volunteers and workers up and down the country to maintain and protect our green spaces.

Please respect our parks – and support our Don’t Trash Oldham campaign – by disposing of your litter properly in the bins or ** taking it home with you. ([link removed])

If you are out and about please tag us in and share any photos and videos with us via our social media channels. Use the hashtag ** #LoveParksWeek ([link removed])
