Across the country, voting rights are under threat from the courts and state legislatures: cuts to early voting, bans on secure ballot drop boxes, and more. Here in Florida, after voters overwhelmingly approved the ballot measure to restore the right to vote for returning citizens, Ron DeSantis and the Republican-led state legislature placed new burdens on them that can only be described as a modern-day poll tax.

And we are just coming off the heels of Ashley Moody, DeSantis’ personal attorney general, attaching the State of Florida to a losing lawsuit that perpetuated the Big Lie as it sought to nullify the legal votes of millions of Americans in an attempt to overturn the 2020 election. Even attorneys in her own office called it “batshit insane.”
