I’m standing up for Washington’s economy, including small businesses, consumers, and essential frontline workers, by forming the first statewide Organized Retail Crime Task Force in Washington.
I recently convened and hosted the first meeting. More than 100 Washingtonians came together, including representatives from police departments, prosecutors, retailers, labor unions, and the FBI and U.S. Attorneys, to discuss strategies to improve coordination and collaboration to help make Washingtonians safer.
According to one survey, Organized Retail Crime is a $2.7 billion problem in Washington. Organized Retail Crime is also harmful and traumatic for workers. In March, an assailant took a store employee hostage during a robbery before being shot by a security guard.
If you support our work ending Organized Retail Crime rings that threaten the safety and economic well-being of Washingtonians, please add your name to stand with me.
Organized Retail Crime puts consumers at risk — especially new parents. One of the most common items stolen by retail crime rings is baby formula, which is then sold online for profit. Parents who unknowingly buy this stolen formula online put their babies at risk because the formula may not be stored at the correct temperature, or its expiration date may be altered.
My Task Force is not focused on petty shoplifting or poverty-based crime. We are committed to improving our state’s response to organized criminal enterprises that steal in order to resell products for a profit.
Combating these sophisticated, Organized Retail Crime rings will improve the well-being of Washington’s consumers and employees alike.

Thank you,
Bob
