John,

Previously, economists have sounded the alarm about the global economic impacts that climate change will bring. But carbon emissions have already begun taking a toll on our wallets.

A recent study by Dartmouth College connected countries’ emissions to the economic damage of climate change across the globe. And they found that the United States was responsible for over $1.8 trillion in damages over just a 15-year span between 1999 and 2014. That is the most of any other country studied.

These damages have come in the form of lower agricultural yields, lower labor productivity, and slashed industrial outputs. And the costs have not been equally distributed. The nations that have taken the brunt of these damages are almost exclusively nations with far lower emissions.

In other words, the U.S. is the prime culprit in the destruction of our planet, but it’s smaller and/or poorer nations that are left footing the bill.

This report quantifies precisely the liability of the world’s top emitters for the damages they’ve inflicted on the world at large. We need to hold ourselves accountable for our disproportionate role in causing the warming of the planet and take the lead in international efforts to slow climate change.

That’s why SEEC members are fighting for sustainable energy policies in Congress. They’re pushing for an end to fossil fuel dependency and to instead shift us towards 100% clean energy. But they’re up against opponents who love to tout the false myth that acting on climate is bad for the economy. Our SEEC Members need your help to push back on that narrative and ensure their voices remain in Congress.

It’s going to take all of us working together. Can you rush a donation today to help defend our SEEC members in November? [[link removed]]
